Who can be a Big?
Anyone who is at least 16 years old and willing to commit at least one year to the program can be a Big.  The only qualification is a desire to have fun and make a new friend.  A professional staff person will guide you through a quick and easy enrollment process, designed to match you with the Little that is perfect for you!bignlittle

Information on Becoming a Big
Anyone interested in becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple, Big Family or School-based volunteer, should submit a volunteer inquiry form (link) or call 920-922-8200.  Each potential volunteer will be given literature about the program, an enrollment application and the opportunity to speck with an Enrollment Specialist about various volunteering opportunities within the agency.  The initial orientation is a critical link in learning more about the agency.  It is a time to ask questions and confirm interest. 

Mentoring Options

Community Based (Traditional) Match

The Community Based program matches a Little one-to-one with a Big.  The match spends approximately 4-6 hours per month together doing everyday activities at their convenience.  The initial commitment is for one year however, the ultimate goal is for the match to develop into a lifelong friendship.  A traditional Big Brother or Big Sister must be at least 18-years-old, have reliable transportation, and auto insurance.

Community Based Big Couple Match
The Big Couple match follows the same guidelines as the traditional programs.  However, both adults must go through the intake process and comply with all Big Brothers Big Sisters guidelines as a Big Couple.

big littleCommunity Based Big Family Match
The Big Family match was developed for Bigs who would like to include their family in the match experience.  Having the same standards as a traditional match, all adults must go through the intake process and comply with all Big Brothers Big Sisters guidelines.  Any children in the family will take part in a family interview and will be expected to maintain the same standards of confidentially as the rest of the family.

School/Site Based Match
School/Site based matches get together once a week, for one hour over the Little’s lunch hour at their school or during an after-school program at a designated site.  School/Site based matches spend this time talking, playing games, working on homework and many other activities on the school or site grounds.  School/Site based mentoring has been proven to help students develop more positive attitude towards school, improve grades, and improve relationships with both adults and peers.  To be a School-based mentor, the Big must be able to get to the school or site of the Little, have flexibility over the lunch hour or during the after school program, and be at least 16 years of age.
